Groovin’ and Grubbin’, the Discovery Museum’s free outdoor concert series, will be continuing until the end of August. Each week, a different performer takes the stage to do an outdoor performance to the attendees in the museum’s parking lot. Food trucks line up in the parking lot with a variety of food choices to satisfy everyone. We’ve had almost a dozen different trucks attend. Chick-Fil-A brings everyone’s favorite chicken sandwiches and chicken nuggets. Mary’s Diner brings all your favorite breakfast and lunch diner foods right to the museum. Lil Trent’s cools visitors down with ice cream and water ice. J-dogs brought their funnel cake truck. Fox’s R’ Nuts brings a variety of “different” snacks and beverages. Smokey Mutt’s brought their finger lickin’ good barbecue. Lil Dan’s brought their Italian favorites. The Camden’s Children Garden brings fresh produce and crafts for the kids. And our friends at Springdale Farms bring their incredible homemade baked goods. Although the food vendors change from week to week, you can be sure that there will be something at Groovin’ and Grubbin’ that will satisfy you and your family.
Our performers from July did a great job! On the first night, we sang a long with Janet Sclaroff. The weather caused the performance to be brought into the theater, but the rain didn’t stop her from getting everyone to groove to the music. Ali Richardson came on July 10th to teach children to dance to the beat of their own drum. He played bongos and let kids try their hand at drumming. Larry the Hatman decorated the parking lot with hundreds of hats on July 17th. Both children and adults were brought on stage to have their heads crowned with different hats; each hat brought with it a song about a wacky adventure the hat-wearer endured. On July 24th, the Discovery Museum’s very own cast of Peter Rabbit took to the stage. They told the story of a little rabbit who learned the hard way that you should always listen to your mama. Madeline Knott joined us on July 31st for a free-spirited look at music. She brought props of all different shapes and sizes for kids to twirl around to the beat of the music.
Groovin’ and Grubbin’ in August will have equally fabulous performers. This Wednesday, August 7th, the Discovery Museum will welcome Jumpin’ Jamie. He will bring with him his guitar to serenade us with his fun, upbeat songs. Ernie & Neal are joining us on August 14th. They are going to take the audience on a musical journey through different genres of music. On August 21th, the cast of Little Red Riding Hood will teach you that a little imagination will take you a long way. Kris Clayton and Ritz Friends will bring Groovin’ and Grubbin’ to a close on August 28th. They will get the whole audience singing and dancing along to the beat.
Each Wednesday for the rest of August, grab some grub from 5-8 PM and catch a performance at 7 PM. With a different performer every night, come once, come twice, come every night! Can’t wait to see you there.
