Volunteer Programs
Are you are retired school teacher who loves working with kids? Are you a young adult getting ready for the workforce? Do you sing a mean rendition of the alphabet song? If you have answered yes to any of these questions then the Garden State Discovery Museum is the place for you to donate your time and volunteer. This is a great opportunity to work with kids and creative staff.
Educator Volunteer
Duties Include:
- Leading/Participating in the floor programs including, but not limited to:
Story Time
Parachute/Sport games
Face Painting
Dino Postcard Making
Giant Spirograph
5-minute science
Art Table - Preparing crafts for art table
- Performing Floor Maintenance
Tidy Museum exhibits
Help sanitize items in exhibits
Volunteer Shifts:
- Weekday Mornings: 9 AM – 12 PM
- Weekday Afternoons: 3 PM – 6 PM
- Weekend Mornings: 9 AM – 12 PM
- Weekend Afternoons: 12 PM – 3 PM
- Weekend Evenings: 3 PM – 6 PM
*Volunteer shifts may be adjusted to work around school schedules, additional employment etc. *
Requirements:
- Must be at least 14 years of age
- Willingness and availability to volunteer at least 1 shift per week
- Willingness and availability to commit to at least 3 consecutive months of volunteering
Animal Care Volunteer
Do you love animals? Come help the discovery museum take care of its wildlife exhibits!
Duties Include:
- Assisting staff in feeding all animals
- Assisting staff in cleaning animal cages
- Researching answers to animal care questions
- Properly documenting animal feeding schedules
- Fixing filters
- Handling animals when necessary
Volunteer Shifts:
- Weekday Mornings: 10 AM – 12 PM
- Weekday Afternoons: 12 PM – 2 PM
- Will have the ability to add one weekend shift if needed once properly trained.
*Volunteer shifts may be adjusted to work around school schedules, additional employment etc. *
Requirements:
- Must be at least 14 years of age
- Knowledge of animals, reptiles preferred
- Comfortable handling animals, reptiles preferred
- Willingness and availability to volunteer at least 1 shift per week
- Willingness and availability to commit to at least 3 consecutive months of volunteering
